What we're looking for

We’re looking for a Business Intelligence & Data Manager for our core data team. Someone with a background in data engineering or data analysis who can manage, nurture, and grow our data team. The ideal candidate is someone who has led and grown data organizations, has a track record of successful mentorship, and has a vision for what a centralized data team would look like at a company our size.

This person is excited to work with data and loves helping everyone meet their data goals. As the leader of the data team, this person should push us to constantly and consistently leverage data to make better decisions. This candidate should have extensive experience in implementing and leading data processes and systems. They should be well versed and opinionated in modern dataOps best practices, should utilize data across multiple disciplines, and bring fresh ideas and methods for how we can continue to improve our practices.

The ideal candidate is passionate about data and growing a data team at a startup. They have experience onboarding other teams into data-thinking processes, making it integral to the way different organizations around the company make informed decisions.

About the role:

This manager role will oversee the data team. In this role, you will have individual contributors reporting to you. You will need to help hire and grow a multi-discipline team (BI, Data Analysts, Data Engineers).

You have a love for helping your team grow and develop, taking care of their professional growth needs as well as quality of day-to-day work life, being an advocate for their work and developing a strong sense of direction.

You'll be a confident leader with the ability to facilitate conversations and decision-making within the team. You'll be responsible for setting, tracking and communicating metrics around work output and goals.

You will focus on building a happy, healthy and diverse team. Develop metrics for your function that represent their work and contributions.

You'll also work closely with other managers and leaders across the company to plan projects, schedule resourcing for those projects and identify risks.

We have a main office in San Francisco, but we have a team spread all over the world, so remote applicants are welcome.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience leading teams of data engineers and analysts working across the company with different stakeholders (e.g. finance, product, engineering, sales) and working to automate reporting for different functions across the company.
  • A champion for data usability and documentation, able to represent both functions to external stakeholders, remove roadblocks so teams can continue to work closely together as we scale the organization.
  • Create a common data framework so that all company data can be analyzed in a unified manner.
  • Work with the product, operations, and executive management teams to create a data-enabled user journey.
  • Create and execute a plan to develop and mature our ability to measure and optimize usage growth, mapped to our user journey.
  • Ensure that each metric in the company’s dashboard has a single source of truth and that data ownership & validation are incorporated on a consistent basis.
  • Develop a roadmap for the data function that clearly defines ownership and responsibility between the central data function and the functional groups.
  • Ability to hire thoughtfully and quickly both individual contributors and managers
  • Ability to develop the individual's skills and professional careers of data engineers, BI, and analysts.
  • Can supervise work priorities and direction
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones with remote colleagues
