Our team is in search of an Engineering Manager - Platform to help us change the way digital products are designed.

About the Team:

The Edge Team in our Platform organization is responsible for everything running around the edges of our networks, our ingresses, Load Balancers, Services Mesh (In Kubernetes), CDNs, workers running at the edges, image processing at the edges. It’s a very critical role in our organization. We want to enable our product engineers to make changes to some of our edge services in a self-service way, as safely as possible, following best practices in the process. The want to have a team of experienced engineers who work towards our mission by building and offering automated tooling which manage changes consistently to all of our environments and deployment targets. 

Our ideal candidate has extensive experience in the Edge space, specifically service meshes like Istio, deployments to Kubernetes, AWS services, CDNs, and leading teams with demonstrable success producing tooling and systems that enable engineering teams.

What you’ll do:

  • You will manage and mentor a team of 3 or 4 engineers to start, helping them to plan and execute their career paths while also jumping into the code if needed
  • Seek out customer feedback, and work with your team to create solutions that will have the highest impact
  • Collaborate across Platform to understand user needs, effectively prioritizing automation/toil-reduction work against new features
  • Iterate on your product and own its quality and impact to our customers, making key investments and improvements, evaluating and making buy vs. build decisions, and leveraging agile processes to increase predictability of team delivery
  • Create a culture of innovation on the team where ideas are generated and executed
  • Set context with the team so they are empowered and equipped to make great business- and Engineering-informed decisions

What you’ll bring:

  • Prior experience managing a team (or teams) of Engineers
  • Experience shipping Edge capabilities and products in a fast-paced and large scale environment
  • Technical experience with Service Mesh (Istio), CDNs, workers at the edges
  • Passion for creating and mentoring engineering teams; you enjoy watching engineers learn and thrive in their careers
  • Bias towards action, absolute willingness to own the problem and drive towards a speedy solution; you won’t stop until the problem is solved with an effective solution
  • Keen eye for details and delivering quality products on tight timelines; you can motivate your team to find solutions which may be outside of the box
  • Ability to comprehend and understand complex systems as a whole, and to focus on and communicate relevant aspects of the system to non-technical stakeholders
