Manager, Decision Science and Analytics (Product) 

Hi there!

 We're looking for an exceptional leader with deep expertise in steering product development with quantitative analysis. You will build up and lead our Product Decision Science & Analytics team, providing thought leadership to product zones around what we should measure, analyse, and how to strategically apply learnings to improve our product's value-proposition and user experience. This includes analytical oversight of revenue products and customer support strategies. We are looking for someone with a proven history of building and leading successful teams, processes and cultures that drive a strong understanding of data, how to use data and how to empower others to use data across the company. You will report to the Director of Decision Science & Analytics, working together to set a vision for Decision Science, developing a world-class team, and creating cross-functional partnerships across the executive team at Zapier.

As a Manager of Decision Science & Analytics, you will provide hands-on leadership to a team of data analysts / data scientists that provide the company with a clear view on business, product, revenue and support performance. We are looking for someone who enjoys digging into product problems, working with leads and individual contributors to build and understand processes, tools and the data they work with, and collaborating with your team to develop KPIs and clarify end-to-end analytics needs across product teams. Additionally, you will work closely with department leads, product managers and members of the executive team to understand their roadmaps and proactively align analytics’ roadmap to support them. You are a skilled manager who is open to new ideas, comments, proposals, and encourage alternatives. You trust your team, making sure they understand their goals and giving them the room and support to execute and develop. You're also a highly capable individual contributor and comfortable leading by example - this is a player/coach role.

About You

• 2+ years relevant management experience, proven track record in leading and growing data insights teams. 
• Passion for managing people, developing talent and building a resilient team culture.
• Experience driving strategic work that influences tech products. 
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, ability to present work at an executive level. 
• Exceptional analytical skills, ability to partner with functional teams to develop and apply key insights. 
• Technical competence with relevant analytics tools (e.g. Python or R), including at least one SQL dialect. They’re all about the same; we happen to use Redshift.
• Experience in defining and analysing complex datasets, finding actionable business solutions to loosely defined problems.
• Expert level experience in both using and mentoring others on the use of business intelligence & data platforms (Looker preferred), Redshift, SQL, Google 360 Suite and similar tools.
• Experience with ETL and dimensional modeling preferably with star schema. 
• Positive, company-first attitude, strong collaborator with proven ability to partner/lead cross functional efforts. 

Things You'll Do:

Zapier is a fast-growing and remote-first company, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. That said, here are some things you'll probably do:

• Build up and lead a world-class team of highly talented data analysts / data scientists focused on product analysis.  Develop a strong team culture focused on partnership with all key functional teams.
• Leverage corpus of analysis to provide recommendations on product strategy, business decisions, and prioritization to functional leaders. Collaborate with department leads to document and execute on their current and future insights needs.
• Work across Zapier to identify business opportunities, measure KPIs, craft data-driven narratives, make quant-backed recommendations and drive informed business actions.
• Manage and optimize processes: you will evaluate and improve processes for prioritizing and assigning tasks, data modeling, visualization and communicating timelines and deliverables.
• Analyze and present usage behavior metrics, such as user churn, activation, engagement and purchasing drivers. Work with product managers to design tests to improve these metrics.
• Use a variety of statistical methods to uncover user/customer insights in order to develop and guide product design and marketing program decisions.
• Ensure all teams have insight to data and can answer their own first-order questions. Develop data literacy programs and provide easy to use tools with clear documentation, examples and tutorials.
• Collaborate w/ teammates, data ops, product, revenue and support to help create roadmaps for data modeling and analysis that serve the teams in the short and long term.

About Data and Decision Science at Zapier

Zapier relies on dozens of systems that emit data about Zapier and our potential and current users and partners. This data is vital for us to make a better product, better business decisions and understand our weaknesses and opportunities. Zapier's Data Engineering team pull this data from DBs, APIs and through event streams, collocates it and then processes it through all the disparate systems to bring them together in a reliable, timely, performant and easy-to-understand way for staff and systems. Decision Science are the primary layer between that data and our business stakeholders, driving deeper understanding of impact, patterns and business opportunities via quantitative research, analysis and experimentation. 

Our data tech stack is best summed up by AWS Redshift (and related AWS products like AWS Glue, Redshift Spectrum, AWS S3), Looker, Matillion ETL, Kafka, Datagrip, Airflow, Python, and R.
