Senior Director, Competitive Intelligence (Remote Eligible)

Position Description:

We are looking for an outstanding leader to run our Global Competitive Intelligence team. This management role is responsible for designing, developing and owning competitive strategies for our Workforce and Customer Identity Products, as well as future threats across solutions and verticals. The goal is to ensure that our product marketing, product management, sales, and enablement teams have the coaching, training, tools, and programs to compete effectively.

Your team will be responsible for both strategic and tactical leadership; driving horizontal consistency across a tiered competitive strategy and implementing that strategy for Okta to reach our growth and revenue goals. In this senior management role, you will be expected to think and advise peer Okta leaders and, at times, the Okta executive team. Programs include competitive enablement, new and global scalable competitive programs, compelling sales tools, internal/external competitive research, technical breakdowns, win/loss analysis, live, in the field, deal support, and campaigns. It is important that you’re confident creating and writing content, playbooks, whitepapers, one-pagers, presentations, and video. There is a core product marketing skillset to be successful in this role.  

Having presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to create compelling messaging is key to educating stakeholders on competitive offerings. Equally important is for your team be recognized as a trusted advisor, with the technical and industry expertise for our leadership team to tap into.

This is a high profile role with an opportunity to help fuel Okta’s rapid growth and leadership in the industry. Today the competitive team is a team of four with room to grow. It is important that we hire someone who has an amazing track record of recruiting and growing ‘A’ Players!

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Define, implement and optimize the global competitive strategy to position Okta for future growth and market differentiation
  • Align the team around a strategy for how competitive should be organized, what are the top priorities, and how success will be measured.   
  • Build relationships with your internal customers to understand their goals, their challenges, and come back with a plan for how the competitive team can help.
  • Communicate effectively and often to ensure all stakeholders are aligned and view competitive programs as a multiplier.


  • Deep knowledge of the Identity and Security landscape is required.
  • Previous experience in enterprise software, on competitive marketing teams.
  • High energy, charismatic, innovative, creative individual.  
  • Leadership DNA, proven ability to excite and lead a competitive team
  • Ability to deliver results in a global, matrixed environment
  • Deep understanding of enterprise sales and enablement strategies  
  • Excellent communication skills and a product marketing toolset

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Master in Business Administration (MBA) is a bonus, but not required  
  • 10+ years of competitive intelligence, sales engineering, sales enablement, product marketing, or similar roles
  • Technical proficiency and industry knowledge are key
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally ~10% of the time
  • Understanding or previous experience with partner + Sales driven strategy
