Senior Engineering Manager - Data Platforms

Remote - US (Seattle, WA) Engineering

The Data Platform group at GitHub is looking for technical manager with passion and experience in leading a data intensive product engineering team for the cloud. You will be responsible for the team designing and launching new critical, low-latency data access platforms that enable both in-product features of GitHub and also expand the datasets available for GitHub's own internal R&D. The ideal candidate has a few years managing cloud native product engineering teams that demonstrate a data intensive, distributed systems focus. Responsibilities:

  • Driving data intensive product architecture broadly and with key code contribution
  • Growing happy customers end-to-end for the services and platforms you own with operational excellence
  • Assessing staffing needs to help shape and grow the Data Platforms team to increase its impact
  • Promoting team growth with modeling, coaching, and genuine care for people
  • Partnering with leadership on vision, roadmap via OKRs, and full service lifecycle
  • Driving collaboration with partner engineering teams to support data product integration

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience leading product engineering teams that have shipped data intensive (gigabytes per second) services
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems like kafka, hadoop, presto, airflow, kubernetes
  • 2 years or equivalent experience managing and growing software engineering teams
  • A track record of developing and managing a network of cross functional partnerships across engineering and product organizations
  • Experience creating clarity with both written and verbal communication

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead a diverse, geographically distributed team
  • Direct exposure to Data Science and Machine Learning workflows
  • A passion for GitHub's brand, platform and product and a desire to improve it for the world's developers by leveraging our unique data assets
