US Payroll Supervisor

ModSquad is currently seeking an energetic full-time United States Payroll Supervisor in our Costa Rican operations center. The US Payroll Supervisor will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and will be a vital member of the finance team.

The successful candidate will need to be able to work out of our San Jose office.

What you will do:

  • Supervise and direct the activities of the Senior Payroll Analyst.
  • Reconcile US state tax balances on a monthly basis and verify state assessments.
  • Hands on assistance with the preparation of payroll and serve as a backup while the Analyst is out.
  • Streamline the payroll preparation process and improve processes and procedures.
  • Assist with the monthly preparation and booking of payroll journals.
  • Evaluate new payroll service providers as, and if needed.
  • Direct and lead the transition to a new service provider, if needed.
  • Ensure ModSquad is registered to do business and to file payroll taxes in new states and localities within the United States.
  • Ensure ModSquad complies with state and local overtime rules.
  • Ad hoc reporting as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as required.    
  • Who you are:

  • You enjoy working with Excel, Payroll and Accounting software.
  • Proficiency in English at an advance level, fluent communication verbal and written is required.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to interact professionally with internal customers and co-workers in multiple locations.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor degree preference in Finance, accounting, business, economics or related field.
  • Must have multi-state payroll tax experience and knowledge base for the United States.
  • A self-starter who feels comfortable asking questions.
  • Strong ability to design efficient processes and procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines for filing payrolls and payroll taxes.
