The IT Operations team at GitHub is growing! Your customers are GitHub's global workforce - end users throughout the company who rely on our systems every day. Our customers look to us not only for support, but also to keep the systems they depend on up and running, enabling them to do their best work with the least amount of friction.

We're looking for a Windows System Administrator with a strong background in network administration to join our team, someone who works well autonomously and genuinely enjoys working with people. This position is open both to remote candidates in North America and those living near GitHub's San Francisco office. While GitHub performs a significant amount of work asynchronously, some travel may be required for projects and team gatherings.   • Acting as the main point of contact and responsible party for Windows at GitHub. Whether for desktop or server - you've got it covered
  • Developing and maintaining documentation of all things Windows for the IT organization
  • Designing, configuring, deploying, maintaining and supporting GitHub's Meraki-managed global corporate networks
  • Effectively communicating technical information to internal customers and stakeholders in a friendly, approachable manner
  • Working proactively with the IT and Security organizations on activities such as endpoint management and network monitoring
  • Developing scripted solutions for repetitive and/or time consuming tasks


  • A passion for helping others and working directly with customers
  • Advanced technical skills in Active Directory
  • Advanced technical skills in networking
  • Demonstrable automation and scripting skills with PowerShell, Bash and/or Python
  • Skills with deploying and configuring monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, Zabbix)
  • Strong documentation skills with an eagerness to teach others
  • Experience configuring, deploying and maintaining Windows MDM solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub
  • Experience in a distributed company
  • Extensive background and knowledge of Windows/Windows Server, with the ability to design, configure, deploy, maintain and support
  • Windows endpoints and servers
  • Experience with Enterprise Mobility Management solutions for macOS and Windows
  • Experience as a Network Administrator
